Tesco Lotus, in collaboration with Bangkok Bank, is enhancing its customer service to serve customers in the 4.0 era. The Bank will install more than 10,000 EDCs that can receive QR Code payments for all cashiers nationwide, including tenants leasing space in the shopping mall areas. Cash back, cash coupons and Club Card points are on offer all year. Bangkok Bank encourages customers to make more electronic payments and has special promotions to boost payments via Bualuang mBanking for the rest of the year. The Bank is confident it can grow mobile banking users to eight million.
Tesco Lotus Corporate Affairs Director Salinla Seehaphan said “We are committed to serving our customers a little better every day by offering high-quality products at affordable prices along with a great shopping experience through all of our channels. Our research shows that convenience is still a very important factor for customers when it comes to their shopping experience. With this insight in mind, coupled with mobile phone usage behavior and the rapid growth of mobile banking, we have partnered with Bangkok Bank to install new EDC machines at more than 10,000 cashiers in Tesco Lotus stores nationwide to facilitate QR Code payments from all compatible mobile banking applications. This means Tesco Lotus will be the first retail store to accept QR Code payments at every cashier. In addition, we are also supporting more than 11,000 tenants leasing space in our shopping malls to offer QR Code payments to customers, further enhancing their shopping experience as Thailand moves towards becoming a cashless society.”
Bangkok Bank and Tesco Lotus also offer exclusive promotions for customers paying with QR Code on the Bualuang mBanking application inside Tesco Lotus stores and mall tenants from September 17 - December 31, 2018 with the following details:

By working with strategic partners, we are able to combine our strengths to offer the ultimate benefits and value to our customers,” Salinla concluded.
Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President and Credit Card Division Manager Shoke Na Ranong said that under our long-standing partnership between Bangkok Bank and Tesco Lotus, we have continued to develop services to enhance customers’ experience. Starting from the launch of a payment system using electronic cards via EDC at Tesco Lotus stores nationwide our 20-year partnership has progressed to the latest ‘QR Code Payment on EDC’ services. This additional channel using QR Code provides a convenient, fast and secure payment method for large retail businesses to support the growing mobile phone usage of their customers who prefer to do their transactions via mobile banking. Those who like to use their credit and debit cards can continue their payments as usual and those who prefer cash payments can now scan QR Code to pay immediately, without the hassle of carrying cash. This service is in line with government policies aiming to continuously promote the development of financial infrastructure and services to drive Thailand to a 'Cashless Society', in line with the country's development under 'Thailand 4.0'.
"This year, the Bank has continued to focus on encouraging customers to use electronic channels to pay for goods and services by developing its EDC system to support a full range of payments via QR Code as well as holding year-round promotions to attract customers. In our partnership with the retail giant, Tesco Lotus we are offering a special promotion of up to 200 baht cash back for customers purchasing goods at Tesco Lotus stores along with mall tenants. Making QR Code payments on Bualuang mBanking doesn’t only provide a convenient way of payment but also adds value for customers."
Now customers can make goods and services payments via ‘QR Code Payment on EDC’ using Visa, MasterCard, JCB and UnionPay credit cards, Be1st Smart TPN UnionPay debit cards and all banks’ debit cards as well as Alipay and WeChat Pay at Tesco Lotus stores nationwide.
Mr. Shoke added that the campaign aims to further boost people’s purchasing power during the last quarter of the year and increase the use of digital transactions. After waiving fees for internet and mobile banking transactions earlier this year, digital transactions jumped by 100% - 90% via mobile banking and the remaining 10% via internet banking. This year the Bank plans to increase its Bualuang mBanking customers to eight million from a mid-year level of around five million.
